OWNER/OPERATOR: LOIS BURAK |

Lois Burak started in the beauty industry when she was 15 years old.
She started work in a prominent salon, trained by one of the pioneers of the nail
business, Cookie Messere. Under the training of Ms. Messere, Lois' natural talents
expanded to other services: make-up applications and waxing. Lois also managed the first
Nailery in Center City Philadelphia and went on to be a nail educator for Glemby
International Salons. In 1986, Lois co-owned the original BeautyWorx with her brother. Lois' desire to be in the entertainment field and her love for the beauty industry would later cultivate itself into what is now known as BeautyWorx, one of the most "innovative and progressive" salons in Northeast Philadelphia (as said by Zoto's cooperative executive). Her creative and intuitive eye is what keeps BeautyWorx cutting edge. She is style coordinator for all photo shoots and make overs along with photographer & director of marketing. Behind the creative and whimsical ads, Lois has compiled some of the most talented, warm spirited operators. Lois foresaw the need for a salon that could be everything to everyone: a neighborhood salon where clients could feel comfortable indulging in spa services, services by beauty professionals top in their field. BW is a salon where beauty professionals who have a natural talent and true love for the business could receive advanced education and encouragement.
